Fidra Lions Hockey Club History

The Story So Far:

Fidra Lions Hockey Club was conceived in April 2008 and officially constituted in February 2009 with the purpose of promoting and providing hockey within the local and wider community of East Lothian.

Our first playing season was 2009/10 where we entered our gents team into the East District League starting at the bottom in Division 4 and successfully gained promotion to Division 3.

An influx of new players enabled the introduction of a ladies team into East District Division 3 and a second gents team into Division 4 for the 2010/11 season. While the gents 2nd XI consolidated their position in their division, the 1st XI continued their upward journey gaining promotion to Division 2 while the ladies got off to a flying start by not only gaining promotion but winning their division as well.

The 2011/12 season proved to be much tougher. Due to restructuring of the gents East District divisions, the 2nd XI found themselves 'promoted' to Division 3. The 1st XI also went through a period of consolidation, finishing in the top third of Division 2. The ladies had the worst possible season, finding themselves heading back down to Division 3.

Better was to come in 2012/13. A re-energized ladies team gained promotion back to Division 2. The gents 1st XI also re-started their journey by winning Division 2 and promotion to Division 1. The gents 2nd XI team took on a new role as a development squad, allowing members of the growing junior section to experience league hockey for the first time.

Our fifth playing season 2013/14 proved to be the most successful to date with the gents 1st XI winning the Division 1 trophy and the ladies narrowly missing promotion to Division 1 by finishing third in Division 2. The gents 2nd XI maintained a healthy mid-table position in Division 3. The youth section continued to grow with teams in the following age groups: U10s, U12s, U14s, U16 boys and U16 girls.
